đź’Ś when your day gets off to a bad start

Hi friend!

It’s almost March. Cue the warm weather. Cue the bird songs.

I’m ready. We’re ready.

This week I’ve been sharing a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to run your own business.

I shared a typical Monday on LinkedIn

It sounded pretty damn good.

And most times, I’m lucky enough for it to go just like that.

But, It’s important for me to share the truth and not just glossy social media “realness.”

So here goes.

Just yesterday a client asked me, “how do you handle stress?”

In her line of work she was very senior and her work took a big toll on her emotional health.

I was working as her thought partner, to explore new ways we could set boundaries at work and give her more room for expansion.

I answered honestly.

For me I need to move through running and yoga. And to take 1 day off weekly.

But you know what?

Sometimes the stress doesn’t always get “handled.”

Sometimes I wake up and give in to checking my mail before my morning routine.

And then I get a disappointing e-mail from a dream, prospective client who doesn’t want to work together.

Or I check LinkedIn and start going down a whole comparison cycle.

Or I get a gazillion messages from a B2B client and feel heavy. Bogged down.

And then 3 hours have passed and I’m feeling more stressed than ever.

I end up snapping at my partner because I’m not feeling great about my productivity or even, feeling good about myself.

I eat something sweet and carb-ey in bed.

I know I should stick to my healthy snacks but alas, instant gratification is what I’m all about right now.

This is another day as a solopreneur.

Just as valid, just as real.

It’s important for me, especially as I guide other women to take big leaps and dream bigger - to normalize the sticky, heavy parts.

I’m sure you can relate.

🏸 Other happenings:

  • I treated myself to a photobooth-like photoshoot (photobooth = no photographer). It was an act of self-love, truly, and it was fun to act silly in front of the camera. With props!

no photographer, all the fun

  • AuthenTech, my group coaching program is now open for early bird sign ups. This is designed specifically for women in tech who want to rediscover joy in their career. I’ve run many communities before and trust me, this one is going to be special.

This week’s writing:

A typical, shiny-version of Monday

A quick muse on the last 12 months and big changes

Let’s normalize fear

I bet you know what you’re good at

Rooting for you,

❤️ Sarah
